Mary Free Bed is known for their innovative therapy, and this past weekend they took it to a whole new level! Saturday morning at Mary Free Bed crews spent about two hours lifting a partial, remodeled Ford Taurus into the facility.
This vehicle will be their newest therapy tool and will help give patients the opportunity to practice getting in and out of the car. In an interview their director of inpatient therapy Steve Brodnicki explained the reason that this is going to be an important part of the hospitals therapy:
“(You) can’t go home unless you can get in the car. I mean that’s the biggest thing. We wanna make sure our patients can get home,When they get home, to be able to get to and from doctor’s appointments, getting in and out of your car, going to family functions, going to church. They have to get in and out of their car, so this is a huge thing for our patients,”
Weller Auto Parts donated the car and Niewiek Auto Sales remodeled it to make it hospital-safe.
